Police in Surrey are investigating an overnight extortion-related shooting in Surrey’s Whalley neighbourhood.
Surrey Police responded to a call of a shooting at a home in the 13400-block of 87A Avenue around 12:40 a.m. Wednesday (April 22).
No one was injured, but police found the home had been damaged by gunfire, and they found bullet casings outside.
SPS’s Extortion Response Team (ExRT) is investigating the shooting, and officers will be at the home today processing the scene with help from the Integrated Forensic Identification Services.
“Although this incident is in the early stages of investigation, the motivation for the shooting is believed to be extortion,” Surrey Police said in a news release Wednesday (April 22).
This is Surrey’s 16th extortion-related shooting this year. Surrey Police said Monday (April 20) that there have been 87 extortion reports, 46 victims, 25 of which are repeat victims, and two extortion-related arson cases in 2026.
Anyone with information should contact SPS’s non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 26-38195 (SP) or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
