UFC Hall of Famer Jose Aldo was one of the first people to reach out to Conor McGregor after his former rival’s revealing comments.
Former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor and UFC Hall of Famer Jose Aldo shared one of the wildest rivalries in Mixed Martial Arts history in the prime of their careers. After Aldo reigned supremely over the UFC featherweight division for years, McGregor pulled off a one-punch knockout to dethrone Aldo at UFC 194.
McGregor and Aldo shared one of the most heated buildups to a fight in UFC history. The two traded barbs verbally for months leading up to their bout, including a global media tour in Brazil and Ireland.
Years removed from their fight, McGregor and Aldo’s careers remain linked, even after both of them contended for titles in other divisions. After McGregor recently admitted he’s gone through ‘spiritual changes’ away from combat sports, including his conversion to Catholicism, Aldo was one of the first to reach out to him.

In a recent interview with Jackpot City Casino, Aldo was asked to describe his current relationship with McGregor.
“What is my relationship with Conor like now? It’s very good,” Aldo said.
“Not just with Conor, but with all my opponents, I’ve always had respect and a certain fondness for everyone. We exchange messages now and then. Recently, I told him I was very happy he accepted Jesus as his savior. I congratulated him and all that.
“Brazilian fans feel strongly because of how our fight went and everything that happened,” Aldo continued. “But I have a good relationship with him, and I always wish him the best. I hope he continues on the right path and does great things in life.” (h/t Bloody Elbow)
Aldo retired following a loss to Aiemann Zahabi at UFC 315. As for McGregor, the former two-division champ is plotting a return to the Octagon this summer after a five-year hiatus.
