ATP Madrid Day 2 Predictions
Marcos Giron vs Yannick Hanfmann

Head-to-head – Giron 1-1 Hanfmann

Marcos Giron opens his clay season here, and this is a surface where he’s typically looked in trouble. Yannick Hanfmann is far more at home on the dirt, bringing a bigger serve and heavier ball that plays up in these conditions. Giron can compete and make it physical, but he may struggle to consistently take time away or finish points on clay. Hanfmann should be able to dictate the bulk of the rallies and apply pressure on key service games. Expect the German to come through, likely in straight sets.
Prediction: Hanfmann in 2

Fabian Marozsan vs Ethan Quinn

Head-to-head – Marozsan 0-1 Quinn

Fabian Marozsan versus Ethan Quinn sets up as a very even, high-quality clash, with both players showing they can threaten at this level. Marozsan has already notched wins over top opposition this season, while Quinn is rapidly finding his feet on tour, highlighted by his Barcelona round of 16 run. Quinn should have the edge on serve and may pick up plenty of cheap points but the slightly quicker Madrid conditions suit Marozsan’s baseline game, allowing his shots to penetrate and do more damage through the court. Expect a tight, competitive match, with Marozsan narrowly getting the win.
Prediction: Marozsan in 3

Terence Atmane vs Miomir Kecmanovic

Head-to-head – Atmane 0-1 Kecmanovic

Miomir Kecmanovic may have slid a bit in the rankings, but he remains a high-quality baseliner, and clay gives him the time and spacing to build points on his terms. It won’t be straightforward against the left-handed Terence Atmane, who can hit a heavy ball and create awkward patterns, even if he can be error-prone. Atmane should lean on his serve to keep things tight on the scoreline.

Over a full match, though, expect Kecmanovic to find his rhythm, extend rallies, and use his consistency to move Atmane around the court. The Serb should be progressing through.
Prediction: Kecmanovic in 3

Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Patrick Kypson

Head-to-head – First Meeting

It has not been easy for Stefanos Tsitsipas this year. The Greek, who was a Roland Garros finalist in 2021, has struggled big time and as a result stands at 80th in the world. He definitely is better than that and with several top players opting out of Madrid due to various reasons, Tsitsipas must be extra motivated to make this week count. He faces the lucky loser Patrick Kypson and while not much is known about him, he is relatively very inexperienced on the main tour. Expect Tsitsipas to punch through but not without having to go the distance.
Prediction: Tsitsipas in 3
