WINNIPEG – A teen is facing weapons charges after police allege he brought a handgun, ammunition and knives to a school in southern Manitoba.

Officers were told Wednesday morning that a youth had a firearm and was heading to the school in a small community south of Winnipeg.

RCMP say staff located the boy on school property and he handed over the weapons without any force.

Police seized an unloaded handgun, a loaded magazine, additional loose ammunition and knives.

The boy is facing several charges, including possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes, unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a weapon obtained by crime.

Police say the boy, who can’t be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, remains in custody and an investigation is ongoing.
