The outdoor soccer season is nearly here, and Estevan Soccer is preparing to kick things off with coaching clinics, final field preparations, and a push to recruit a few more volunteers ahead of opening week.
Estevan Soccer president Jason Bresciani says the club is hosting coaching clinics this weekend at Spruce Ridge, aimed at helping new and returning coaches feel confident as the season approaches.
Coaching Clinics Focus on Fundamentals
“This weekend we’ve got our coaches’ clinics at Spruce Ridge,” Bresciani explained. “We have Active Start in the morning, which focuses on coaching the U3, U5, and U7 age groups, and then Fundamentals sessions running as well.”
The clinics are designed to help coaches understand the basics of the game, from running structured practices to teaching age‑appropriate skills. “The biggest thing is the knowledge of the game,” Bresciani said. “Instead of showing up nervous or unsure, these courses help coaches relax and understand how to teach the fundamentals.”
Registration is completed through Saskatchewan Soccer and Canada Soccer, with a two‑step process that includes in‑person instruction and online education modules. While the Canada Soccer portion includes a fee, Estevan Soccer will reimburse local coaches who complete the training.
Several Coaching Positions Still Open
While clinics are underway, Bresciani says the club is still actively recruiting coaches across multiple age groups. “We definitely need at least two coaches for the U11 division,” he said. “We could also use one more coach in U13, a couple for U5, and additional help in U7.”
Estevan Soccer is also looking for one more coach for the U3 group on Wednesday nights. Bresciani notes that even families without coaching experience are encouraged to step forward, as support and resources are provided. “These clinics are just to help people get started,” he said. “If someone can’t make it this weekend, they can still coach this season.”
Season Set to Begin May 4
Despite ongoing spring weather challenges, the season is scheduled to begin during the week of May 4. “Our house league starts Monday, May 4,” Bresciani said. “That includes U3, U5, and U11, with additional play on Wednesdays.”
Youth divisions will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while older U15 and U17 players will scrimmage together early in the season. Competitive schedules are still being finalized.
While preparations continue, wet conditions have slowed field readiness, with repairs needed to address sprinkler heads and uneven ground. Bresciani credits support from the city and a strong executive board for keeping plans on track.

Beyond the regular season, Estevan Soccer is also seeking sponsors to help cover rising costs related to equipment, travel, and field maintenance. “We’re always looking for sponsors to help with travel expenses, equipment upgrades, and maintenance,” Bresciani said.
The club is also exploring the possibility of hosting a Team Canada World Cup viewing party at the Orpheum Theatre later this year, offering a community‑building opportunity for local soccer families and fans. “That’s still in the planning stages, but we’re hopeful we can make that happen,” he added.
With a longer summer forecast and plenty of excitement building, Bresciani says the enthusiasm never fades. “We’re always looking forward to the season,” he said. “Once it starts, it’s over before you know it.”
