A grass fire near the St. Boniface Industrial Park was quickly knocked down Thursday evening.
The fire broke out shortly after 7:40 p.m. near Lagimodiere Boulevard and Dugald Road.
When crews arrived, the fire had spread to about 400 metres in size.
Firefighters used specialized equipment, including WFPS “Bison” vehicles designed for rough terrain, to reach and extinguish hot spots while protecting nearby property.
The fire was declared under control by 8:48 p.m. No injuries were reported, and no damage estimates are available. The cause remains under investigation.
WFPS is reminding residents that spring typically brings an increase in grass and wildland fires, and is urging people to take steps to reduce fire risk around homes and properties.
