Surrey council will vote Monday on a $9,091,325.60 contract for Ventana Construction Corporation for design and preconstruction services related to the Newton Community Centre.

If approved, the spending limit will be set at $10,100,000.

“Staff will explore opportunities with Ventana to advance design work and move the project forward as quickly as feasibly possible,” city manager Rob Constanzo indicates in a corporate report coming before council on April 27. The centre is expected to be ready for use in the Spring of 2030.

The Newton Community Centre, Costanzo notes, will be a “comprehensive community hub offering inclusive recreational, cultural, and educational amenities for residents of all ages.”

It will feature a 50-metre lap pool, a leisure pool, a hot tub and sauna, a library branch, two gymnasiums, a fitness centre and a mat room, as well as multi-purpose rooms, childcare and arts areas.
