The stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge connecting Surrey and New Westminster is closed this weekend as crews complete the final surface paving.

The closure began Friday night at 9 p.m. PT and will last until Monday morning, April 27, at 5 a.m. PT. The contractor group, Fraser Crossing Partners, says this weekend’s clear weather will give workers enough time to complete the paving work on the bridge deck.

Those who would normally use the stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge, also known as Riverview Bridge, can use the Port Mann or Alex Fraser bridges instead.

The bridge, which replaced the 89-year-old Patullo Bridge, opened partially in December 2025, and then fully in February.

stal̕əw̓asəm refers to “a space where you can view the river.” The hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ name was given in recognition of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) and Qw’?ntl’en (Kwantlen) First Nations which had an important village site near the base of the bridge.
