New stal̕əw̓asəm bridge closed all weekend for paving work on Surrey-New West span

The new Surrey-New Westminster crossing will be fully closed this weekend to give crews the time and space to complete “top lift paving works” on the bridge deck.
The stal̕əw̓asəm (Riverview) bridge will be shut down in both directions starting tonight (Friday) at 9 p.m. until Monday morning (April 27), says an advisory on the Pattullo Bridge replacement project website.
Motorists wanting to cross Fraser River will have to use Port Mann or Alex Fraser bridges over the weekend, and buses will be rerouted over Queensborough and Alex Fraser bridges.
Access to businesses along King George Boulevard in Surrey and businesses in downtown New Westminster will be maintained, project planners say.
All four lanes of stal̕əw̓asəm bridge opened to traffic for the first time on Feb. 14, ending an era of travel on the old Pattullo Bridge, now being deconstructed as part of a $1.6-billion bridge replacement project.
The stal̕əw̓asəm bridge name was announced Dec. 8 in recognition of “First Nations’ deep historical and current connections to the area,” according to B.C.’s Ministry of Transportation and Transit. The name, pronounced STALL-oh-AW-sum, translates to “place to view the river” in the Indigenous halkomelem (hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓) language.
