A 41‑year‑old man from Ottawa is dead following a boating incident on the St. Lawrence River, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said.

According to an OPP press release, officers from the Leeds County detachment responded to calls about a capsized boat north of Grenadier Island, about 55 kilometres northeast of Kingston, shortly after 10 p.m. on Saturday.

A 4.5-metre aluminum vessel with multiple occupants on board had overturned and one person was unaccounted for, police said.

All other occupants made it to shore safely, OPP added.

The Leeds 1000 Islands Fire Service found the missing man unresponsive in the water. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

OPP said an investigation is ongoing.
