USC Upstate Leads Big South Men’s Golf Championship After First Round
FRIPP ISLAND, S.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – USC Upstate posted a team aggregate score of 3-under par 281 and holds a one-shot lead after the first round of the 2026 Big South Men’s Golf Championship on Sunday.  Presbyterian College (-2, 282), Longwood (-1, 283) and Gardner-Webb (-1, 283) also finished under par as a team for second- and third-place, respectively.  The Championship is being contested at the Ocean Creek Golf Course (par 71, 6,546 yards) on Fripp Island, S.C.

High Point and Radford entered the clubhouse in fifth place at 3-over-par 287, with Winthrop and Charleston Southern one stroke behind at 288. A total of seven shots separate the eight teams on the leaderboard.Â

Individually, 13 players carded red numbers during Sunday’s first round, with USC Upstate’s Alec Prentice in the lead after 18 holes at 5-under 66. He enjoyed a bogey-free day with five birdies and holds a one-stroke lead over Radford’s CJ Peterson (-4). Peterson closed his round with five birdies among his final nine holes and was tops with seven overall birdies on the afternoon. High Point’s Shlok Jain and Longwood’s Matthew Hartley are tied for third at 3-under 68, with three players sharing fifth-place at -2 under 69. Hartley, CSU’s Dewi John and Upstate’s Phuthanate Kangwol each had an eagle on their scorecard on Sunday.
Second round action begins at 8:30am Monday, and individual and team results can be accessed online via Clippd’s Live Scoring platform.
