Nest has announced the end of support date for its first- and second-generation Learning Thermostats.
This end of support means that your smart thermostats will no longer work or connect to your Google Nest or smart home app. They will be automatically unpaired and removed from them starting October 25, 2025. Any additional third-party assistants and connected features will also be removed.
After the end of support, all first- and second-generation Nest Learning Thermostats owners will no longer be able to receive notifications or check the status of their device through the app. Additionally, owners will no longer be able to control the device from their phones or tablets, nor will they be able to remotely change the thermostat’s settings.
Owners can now only control the thermostats directly through the device. This will continue to allow users to switch between temperature modes, and any pre-set schedules won’t be interrupted and will continue to work. Any features or settings accessible through the thermostat itself will also continue to work.
Though the devices will still be usable, they will no longer receive software or security updates, which can lead to a decrease in performance over time.
Nest will offer users in Canada and the U.S. affected by the end of support a special price for its fourth-generation Learning Thermostat at $219.99, nearly 50 per cent off the device’s original cost.
You can check the Google Nest Help Centre to see if the end of support will affect your Nest Learning Thermostat.
