The Canadian Federation of University Women White Rock/Surrey is marking 40 years of helping boost education opportunities for women with a $4,000 anniversary award.
Named in honour of a longstanding member – and to “recognize the longevity and evolution” of the club’s Bursary Foundation – the Eileen Fuller in Memorium bursary joins the $5,000 Mary Fran Bateman in Memorium bursary, as well as the $3,000 1988 Executive Board bursaries.
A total of $12,000 will be shared amongst successful candidates, CFUW officials said, in announcing the club’s annual call for applications. Surrey, White Rock and Langley women needing a financial boost to help further their education are invited to apply. The bursaries may be used for any post-secondary education, including trades training, diploma programs and university/college degrees.
Last year’s recipients were Priyanka Dhesa ($6,500, marking the club’s 65th anniversary), Farrah Rahiman (a $4,000 Mary Fran Bateman in Memorium bursary) and Shawna Narayan (a $3,000 1988 Executive Board Bursary).
Since inception, the foundation has awarded $394,500 to 250 recipients. A March 8, 2026 fundraiser at Morgan Creek Golf Course – a collaboration with the Soroptimists International of Surrey/Delta to mark International Women’s Day – added $2,825 to the bursary fund, which is supported by a variety of fundraisers held throughout the year, as well as donations.
The deadline to apply for this year’s awards is May 29, 2026. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
