Ottawa police have identified the man charged with fatally stabbing his mother and attempting to murder his grandmother in Barrhaven last week.
The service’s homicide unit confirmed on Monday that Party Shah, 30, has been charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder.
The fatal victim has been identified as 60-year-old Farnaz Farahani.
One of the police units investigating previously told CBC News that Farahani woman was Shah’s mother and that the injured woman is Shah’s grandmother.
Police did not previously release the names because they were still notifying other family members.
On April 23, police were called to Ashbourne Crescent, a residential street near the intersection of Cambrian Road and Longfields Drive, at around 9:45 p.m.
Investigators say the women were both stabbed and that Shah then went to the hospital in Hawkesbury and said he’d killed two people.
Shah appeared in court on Monday and will be back in court next Monday.
Farahani’s death is Ottawa’s fifth homicide this year. Police have also classified it as a femicide.
