Peel Regional Police have arrested a man in his 70s in connection with the targeted shooting death of a 62-year-old man inside a business at a commercial plaza on Monday morning in Mississauga.

The shooting occurred in the area of Kennedy Rd. and Matheson Blvd.

“Around 8:30 a.m., police were called to the area in regards to a person that was unresponsive,” Peel Police Const. Laurie McCann told reporters at the scene on Monday afternoon.
“Police attended with fire and paramedics. They did locate a male who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. They tried to save the man, but unfortunately, he did succumb to his injuries. The investigation commenced immediately and a suspect in this murder case has been arrested. And at this time, they did recover a firearm.”
McCann confirmed it was a targeted killing and there was no other danger to members of the public.
She didn’t know immediately what the relationship, if any, was between the arrested suspect and the victim, and she said she “had no information as to what the cause of this shooting was. It is very early.”
McCann said someone in the commercial building discovered the victim and called 911.

“We’re obviously asking if anyone has information that was in the area at the time, (has) dashcam (footage), we don’t have the exact time that it did happen,” she said. “But anywhere from the wee hours of the morning until we were called at 8:30 am., if they were in the area, may have video surveillance obviously officers are doing their due diligence to see what video is in the area, to please call police at 905-453-3311 or again you can remain anonymous at 222-TIPS.”
McCann added: “No evidence is too small because you can catch on people’s (camera) vehicles people walking, vehicles leaving the parking lot, people walking through the parking lot, so every little bit will help the investigators in this case.”
She said if any charges were to be laid against the man arrested that information would be coming in a news release issued later from Peel police.
