Charges have been laid against a Mississauga man in a homicide investigation in the GTA.
A release from the OPP today stated that on Monday, April 1, 2024, at approximately 8:10 a.m., officers responded to reports of a deceased individual near Chinguacousy Rd and King St in the Town of Caledon in Peel Region.
A post-mortem examination confirmed that the deceased was 65-year-old David Robson of the Township of Melancthon.
Police have stated that the autopsy confirmed Robson was the victim of a homicide.
Robson was last seen on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at approximately 5:00 p.m. in the Melancthon area.
On Monday, March 25, 2024, he was reported missing, along with his vehicle, a black 2017 Kia Sportage — his residence was also reported on fire that very day.
As a result of the police investigation, 29-year-old Jack Trela of Mississauga was charged with alleged arson and first-degree murder.
Trela remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
Police have not stated whether the accused and the victim were known to one another.
Members of the Dufferin OPP Crime Unit are continuing this investigation alongside other law enforcement detachments.
“While an arrest has been made in connection with the homicide of David ROBSON, we believe other individuals may be involved. We continue to urge anyone with information to contact police. Our goal is to hold all those responsible for David’s death accountable and provide answers to his family,” said OPP Detective Inspector Mark Allison, in an official statement.
