3 L-L League boys tennis teams win in opening round of District 3 tournament | Boys’ tennis

Manheim Central outlasted West York 3-2 in the first round of the District 3 boys tennis team championships Tuesday.

The Barons’ reward for the Class 3A win in Manheim is a date with top-seeded and undefeated Manheim Township Thursday in Neffsville.

Eighth-seeded Central (16-2), which won the Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 2 title, clinched the match when Zach Spangler got by the ninth-seeded Bulldogs’ Steve Steele 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.

The Barons also got wins in both doubles matches. Matt Stoltzfus and Joseph Fox won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1, while Cayden Chacon and Kaiden Snapp were 6-2, 6-4 winners at No. 2.

Also in action Thursday in 3A will be No. 3 Hempfield, which will host No. 6 South Western (15-1), a 3-2 winner over No. 11 Wilson 3-2 on Tuesday; and No. 4 McCaskey, which gets defending champion Dallastown (14-4), the fifth seed that beat No. 12 Cumberland Valley 4-0 on Tuesday.

Both Lancaster-Lebanon League Class 2A entries in the tournament won Tuesday.

Fifth-seeded Pequea Valley (11-4) held off No. 12 Trinity (12-6) 3-2, while 10th-seeded Annville-Cleona (9-4) came out on top 4-1 at No. 7 Hanover (12-4).

The host Braves, like Manheim Central, needed a three-set win in their victory as Nick Donlen and Owen Fisher captured a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 decision at No. 1 doubles. Nolan Stoltzfus won 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1 singles while Jack Feister won by forfeit at No. 2.

PV’s Don Feister came up just short at No. 3 singles, falling 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.

For the Dutchmen, Travis Hostetter won in straight sets at No. 1 singles, as did both doubles teams: Brent Meyer and Emilio Fuentes Garcia at No. 1, and George Maag and Nicholas Leonard at No. 2. Isaac Hostetter needed three sets at No. 3 singles, winning 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.

The Braves will be at fourth-seeded Conrad Weister Thursday while A-C travels to No. 2 Camp Hill.

The top four seeds in both classes got first-round byes.

The lone L-L team to fall Tuesday was 10th-seeded Lancaster Country Day (12-3), which lost 3-0 to sixth-seeded Central Dauphin (15-3) in Class 3A.
