Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish’s first challenger in the upcoming municipal election has been revealed.
Ward 2 Coun. Alvin Tedjo, elected to city council in 2022 and second-place finisher to Parrish in the June 2024 mayoral byelection in Mississauga, announced on Newstalk 1010 radio Thursday morning that he’ll once again seek the mayor’s post in Canada’s seventh-largest city.
A spokesperson for Tedjo’s campaign told INsauga.com this morning they’ll be issuing a press release Thursday afternoon with more details.
On the radio program early Thursday, Tedjo told host John Moore he’ll make his 2026 mayoral run official on Friday morning when candidate registration opens at 8:30 a.m.
Following the resignation of former Mississauga mayor Bonnie Crombie in early 2024, when she left to become leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, Tedjo was one of four city councillors and 20 candidates overall to throw their hat into the ring to succeed her.
Parrish earned 43,494 votes in the June 2024 mayoral byelection to defeat Tedjo (35,005 votes), Ward 7 Coun. Dipika Damerla (27,119 votes) and Ward 1 Coun. Stephen Dasko (22,408 votes).
Parrish has told INsauga.com on several occasions she’ll run for mayor one more term as she still has “a lot to accomplish,” she said earlier.
The municipal election will be held on Oct. 26.
The candidate nomination period opens Friday morning (May 1) at 8:30 a.m. and continues untl Aug. 21 at 2 p.m.
