Traffic will be impacted for the next two weeks, and beyond, as new sanitary sewers are installed on a busy section of road in the southwest end of Mississauga.
Peel Region officials said this week Hensley Street will be closed to all through traffic at Royal Windsor Drive until May 15 for sanitary sewer installation work.
The work there is part of larger plans to install new sanitary sewers along Royal Windsor Drive and Southdown Road (see map below), the region said.
“Sanitary sewers are underground pipes that carry wastewater from your home or business to a water resource recovery facility,” officials explained in an online description of the major infrastructure project. “Wastewater is created when water goes down a drain or toilet. As our population grows, we need to build larger sewers to provide (residents and businesses) with high-quality wastewater services.”
Construction began last December and is scheduled to finish at the end of 2026, according to Peel Region, which adds crews will be working from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

The work is being completed by Pacific Paving Inc. and administered by consultant Arcadis Inc., both under contract to Peel Region, officials noted.
During construction, “we may need to temporarily close roads or reduce traffic to a single lane,” the region said. “If this is needed, we will place signs giving directions. On-street parking will be reduced when we are working on your street.”
In addition to traffic impacts, area residents/businesses might also feel “slight vibrations and experience some minor noise and dust from construction work.”
Once the new sanitary sewers are buried and in place, and related work has been completed on all wastewater pipes, the region says it will repair the road, curb, sidewalk, driveways and lawns.
However, those repairs will only be temporary, the region adds, as the City of Mississauga has plans to complete road work on Royal Windsor Drive and Southdown Road within the next few years.
“Peel Region repairs are temporary, as the City of Mississauga will complete restoration as part of their road work,” the region said, adding the city will send residents/businesses a separate notice about its construction plans.

Farther east along Mississauga’s lakeshore, several other similar infrastructure projects are taking place that will also lead to delays and hindrances for residents, businesses and drivers.
Work on one particular project is already underway on a stretch of Lakeshore Road and it’ll impact public transit riders, those who walk and cycle on a popular waterfront trail and others for the next two to three years, according to Peel Region officials.
Those in charge of the infrastructure upgrade work in that part of the city said two temporary construction sites — one next to the Credit River, the other a couple of kilometres to the west at Richard’s Memorial Park — will remain in place for the duration of the work.
The Richard’s Memorial Park worksite will remain in place until fall 2027 while the other is expected to be needed until fall 2028, the region said.
They’re needed, officials say, in order to complete:
Installation of a new watermain and large sanitary sewer along Lakeshore Road, between Jack Darling Memorial Park and Elmwood Avenue.
Installation of a new sanitary sewer on Wesley Avenue, from Park Street to Lakeshore Road.
Replacement of a section of watermain between Ibar Way and Shawnmarr Road.
