BREAKING: Construction contract cancelled for Delta long-term care project

The province has cancelled the construction contract for the new Beedie Long-Term Care Home, though it says the project will still move forward.
That’s according to a memo from Fraser Health’s interim executive director for Peach Arch and Delta hospitals and White Rock, South Surrey and Delta health services, Anne Brownlee, obtained by the B.C. Conservative Party and provided to Black Press Media.
In the April 29 memo, Brownlee said government has confirmed the construction contract is being cancelled due to the project being re-paced.
Brownlee also said the province has “been clear that they remain committed to this project and it will move forward.”
“This project has been strongly championed by the community and supported by many partners. We are grateful for that advocacy and the shared commitment to improving care for the people we serve,” Browlee wrote.
“We recognize that the needs this project addresses are still very real. We will continue to look for options to support our staff and medical staff and to help ease the pressures they experience every day with the important service they provide.
“We recognize this is a significant change. We are feeling the impact as well. While this project is not moving forward right now, we know it will proceed.”
Brownlee said Fraser Health’s focus remains on delivering care and addressing the growing health care needs of the community.
“We will continue to work closely with the province, our partners and the community now and for generations to come, in a fiscally responsible way.”
