A second man has been arrested and charged in the shooting death of the brother of Toronto poet Mustafa Ahmed three years ago.
Mohamed Abdullahi, 34, of Toronto, was charged Thursday with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Mohamed Ahmed, 36.
Abdullahi was arrested in Belleville, Ont.
In July 2023, Ahmed was found suffering from a gunshot wound in a vehicle near Sherbourne and Shuter streets. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a news release Thursday, Toronto police said Abdullahi was arrested by Belleville police, who were acting on a search warrant at an apartment in that city’s east end.
Abdullahi was arrested along with two other men and charged with possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, proceeds of crime under $5,000 and obstructing police. He was scheduled to appear in court Thursday in Toronto.
Belleville police said in a news release Thursday they had learned Toronto police had an outstanding arrest warrant for Abdullahi for first-degree murder.
“He was arrested additionally on the strength of the warrant,” Belleville police said.
In November 2025, Toronto police arrested Yasir Mohamed, 29, in connection with the shooting death. He was charged with first-degree murder, pointing a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, assault with a weapon, possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order and two counts of failure to comply recognizance.
