Motorists can expect traffic delays due to a parade that starts in Mississauga and ends in Toronto on Sunday.

The annual Khalsa Day Parade will commence on Airport Road and wind its way for 10 km to Carrier Drive in Etobicoke.

The May 3 parade is part of Vaisakhi, a significant celebration marking the birth of the Sikh faith and the start of the Sikh New Year.

City of Mississauga officials advise residents and visitors of traffic disruptions that are likely to occur from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Parade route

The parade will begin at Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara in Malton and will end at Sikh Spiritual Centre Toronto in Etobicoke. This year’s route has been updated to include a turn on Darcel Avenue.

Starting at Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara (7280 Airport Rd., Mississauga), the parade will head east on Morningstar Drive, turn left on Darcel Avenue, turn right on Finch Avenue, turn left on Woodbine Downs Boulevard, turn right on Carrier Drive, ending at the Sikh Spiritual Centre Toronto (9 Carrier Dr., Etobicoke).

Planning ahead

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead to avoid delays. If you live or drive in the Malton area, consider leaving extra travel time and using alternate routes. As the area will be busy, consider walking, biking or taking transit.

If you rely on MiWay, check route alerts before you leave and while you’re travelling, as detours and stop closures can change as the parade moves.

Road closures

Road closures will be in effect along parts of the parade route. Closures are expected to begin late morning and remain in place until early evening, with roads reopening progressively as the parade moves and streets are cleared. Full road closures:

Airport Road between Derry Road and Slough Street from 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Morningstar Drive between Airport Road and Goreway Drive from 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Morningstar Drive between Goreway Drive and Darcel Avenue from 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Goreway Drive between Brandon Gate Drive and Goliffe Avenue from 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Darcel Avenue between Morningstar Drive and Finch Avenue from 11 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Finch Avenue between Steeles Avenue and Highway 27 from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Alternate routes

During road closures, residents and visitors travelling east–west may want to use Derry Road, Rexdale Boulevard or Belfield Road. For north–south travel, consider Dixie Road, Weston Road or Highway 427.

Drivers should follow onsite police and traffic‑control directions and watch for posted detour signs. For those who will attend the celebration, vehicles must park in designated parking areas only. Illegally parked vehicles can block access for emergency responders and may result in a parking ticket or towing.

Several MiWay routes will be temporarily detoured on May 3, due to road closures related to the parade.

Routes 7, 11, 42 and 107 will board at a temporary stop on Etude Dr. at Goreway Dr.
