An annual event bringing the community together to clean up is back once again.
For the last nine years, the William Whyte Neighbourhood Association (WWNA) has hosted the spring clean-up.
“This is an annual event where the community, including residents and businesses, come out to pick up all the litter and garbage strewn about the William Whyte neighbourhood,” Darrell Warren, WWNA President, says.
“It’s very important. I think all neighbourhoods have to do it because we can’t rely on the city anymore to go ahead and do the neighbourhood cleanups,” Warren says.
Warren says this is a great opportunity to come together. “I encourage all neighbourhoods to take part and go ahead and clean up. Even if you don’t live in our area, if you want to come out and volunteer some time to help us clean up, it’s much appreciated. There’s a lot of garbage blowing around. So the more people we get, the more garbage we collect.”
Warren says that volunteers are able to come and help on a come-and-go basis. “I encourage people to come from other areas because our organization we don’t see boundaries. That’s a city of Winnipeg and provincial thing and a federal thing. If you want to do something, come out and volunteer for as much time as you can. If you want to come for half an hour or an hour, we’re more than happy to have you.”
The William Whyte Neighbourhood Spring Clean-Up is on May 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participation can be on a come-and-go basis.
After the cleanup is completed at 2 p.m., all volunteers will be treated to a volunteer appreciation lunch and a prize draw.
