There’s a special guest at Earl Marriott Secondary in South Surrey — but she refuses to leave.
A mother Canada goose has chosen to nest in a courtyard at the school, which is surrounded on all sides by the school building, but open to the sky so the nesting momma — dubbed ‘Gloria’ by staff and students — can come and go as needed.
Occupying her time with mainly, keeping her eggs safe and warm, an EMS tech teacher installed a ‘goose cam’ so everyone can watch Gloria in a livestream, and she has been a constant star on the school’s TV screens, an EMS teacher noted in an email.
“Gloria has become a celebrity among staff and students, who have all be advised to keep our distance and give her a calm space,” the teacher shared. “My Grade 10 English students were working on a project yesterday and I put the live feed on our classroom TV. It was charming to watch the proud mama.”
According to online sources, the eggs will hatch after 25 to 30 days of incubation.
