Naked stage in Surrey for ‘America’s Sexiest Couple’ in June

Tickets are now on sale for America’s Sexiest Couple, the next script-reading staged at Newton Cultural Centre.
Surrey-based Naked Stage Readers Theatre will bring Ken Levine’s comedy to life from June 5-7, a weekend for three show times at the “black box” theatre on 72 Avenue.
The company promises “no sets, no props, just great acting” in the story of two actors, once “America’s sexiest couple” on a hit 1980s sitcom, who reunite for the first time in 30 years.
They face a lifetime of unresolved issues, longings, resentments and regrets. Plus, the network wants to reboot the show. Career and personal aspirations collide. Professionally and personally, where do they go from here?
What is Naked Stage?
“While our name might imply an erotic happening, it’s the stage that’s naked, not the performers,” explains a post on nspsociety.com, where show tickets are sold for $24 (also at the door).
“Our performances don’t have movement, extensive lighting, sound systems or props. The stage is bare except for the actors, seated on stools, with their scripts on music stands in front of them. Our focus is on characters and story – much like radio plays.”
The last Naked Stage show at Newton Cultural Centre was Jigsaw Puzzle, a late-April production directed by Bridget Browning. For America’s Sexiest Couple, Kelly Thompson is in the director’s chair.
The company’s four-show 2025-2026 season launched with In The Cards in November followed by The Savannah Disputation at the end of February, Jigsaw Puzzle and now America’s Sexiest Couple.
Playwright Levine is best known as an American screenwriter, director, producer and author. He has worked on a number of television series including M*A*S*H, Cheers, Frasier, The Simpsons, Wings, Everybody Loves Raymond, Becker and Dharma and Greg, according to his IMDB profile.
