Re: Alberta funds 11 ‘shovel-ready’ projects to build more continuing care spaces (29 April). This investment is a meaningful step forward, and the next essential move would be to advance the long‑delayed hospital project as quickly as possible. Bringing that facility online would help relieve pressure on emergency room wait times and improve the flow of patient admissions. Ultimately, expanding continuing‑care capacity and accelerating hospital development work hand in hand. Together, they create a more resilient health‑care system, one that can respond more effectively to demand, reduce bottlenecks, and provide Albertans with the timely care they deserve.

The Carney curse
It didn’t matter how the Oilers played against the Ducks, when PM Carney was seen wearing an Oilers tie this week, they were doomed.
Bob Davidson
(Have they really recovered from the Drake bet curse a couple years ago?)
Don’t blame
OK, Mark Carney, you have managed to cobble together a majority. I hope you’re happy. Canada’s problems are now entirely yours. You can’t blame the opposition for holding up anything. Legislation can be bulldozed through with great haste. Therefore, when things are not built, it’s on you. When fuel and groceries are even less affordable, your government carries all responsibility. As I enter my ninth decade, I feel sorry for those coming behind me. If they voted Liberal at any time since 2015, they can only blame themselves.

(With a majority, the Liberals definitely hold more responsibility.)
Tackle the debt first
It’s time to mandate a solid 5 to 10 per cent paydown of the debt, not the deficit, per year. The interest savings would in a few years more than make it worthwhile. Then maybe you can look at a federal sovereignty investment. How did Carney survive in business? The way he is running the country I sure wouldn’t want him running any business I owned.
Robert McDowell
(Neither would we.)
Canada is no Norway
So Carney announces a sovereignty fund. He mentions just like Norway has. Well, Carney, I dispute that. Does Norway have a tanker ban? Does Norway have a pipeline ban. Does Norway have an industrial carbon tax? One thing Norway has is smart policies.
Douglas Cassell
(All good questions.)
