Benavidez drops and stops “Zurdo”
Red flags, as David Benavidez ruthlessly defeated Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramírez by technical knockout in the sixth round, during the most impactful fights on Saturday, May 2.
From the opening bell, Benavidez set the tone with and more significantly the pace, with his volley punch volume and stilleto accuracy, landing clusters of combinations to the body and head, that systematically, categorically and fundamentally busted up and wore Ramírez down. The constant, unremitting pressure from the “Mexican Monster” resulted two knockdowns and the stoppage.
The end came in the sixth round, when the accumulated punishment culminating in a left, right, left, snapping back Zurdo’s head in a sweat spray, dropped him. Battered and stunned, he covered his swelling eye with his glove, his mouth- piece fell out of a mouth agape and ajar, he was in no position to rise to defend himself and Referee Thomas Taylor, wisely, swiftly and mercifully immediately waved the fight off.
With this result, Benavidez secures a key victory in yet another division, reaffirming his status as one of the most dominant figures in boxing today.
