North Korean women’s soccer team to play in South for first time in 12 years

A North Korean women’s soccer club is scheduled to visit South Korea for the first time in about 12 years, in a rare instance of cross-border sports amid frozen ties between the two countries.

North Korea’s Naegohyang Women’s Football Club is scheduled to arrive in South Korea on May 17 to compete in the final phase of the year’s Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Champions League, according to Seoul’s Ministry of Unification on Monday.

The Pyongyang-based team will face South Korea’s Suwon FC women’s soccer club in the competition’s semifinals on May 20, with the final set to take place
