That matters because new MacBook Air models usually stay close to full price for months. The new Air runs on Apple’s M5 chip, which has a 10-core CPU and an 8-core GPU with dedicated Neural Accelerators in each core. The 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display runs at 2560×1664 with 500 nits of brightness and support for 1 billion colors. It also includes 16GB of unified memory, 512GB of SSD storage, a 12MP Center Stage camera, Touch ID, and Wi-Fi 7. For students, business users, or anyone who wants a lightweight laptop that handles everyday tasks and light creative work, this is a very capable machine.
Why we like this MacBook Air M5 deal
M5 chip with faster AI and graphics
The M5 chip includes a 10-core CPU and 8-core GPU, each core packing a dedicated Neural Accelerator. That design delivers up to 4x faster AI task performance than the M4 Air, and up to 9.5x faster than the M1 Air. For real-world use, that means Apple Intelligence features like writing tools, image generation, and on-device large language models run noticeably faster. The third-generation ray tracing engine also helps with light gaming and 3D rendering.
512GB base storage and 16GB unified memory
Apple finally doubled the base storage from 256GB to 512GB. The 16GB of unified memory (up from 8GB on older Airs) removes a major bottleneck for multitasking, allowing you to keep more tabs and apps open without slowdown. For a fanless laptop, these hardware improvements translate directly into smoother everyday performance.
Wi-Fi 7, 12MP camera, and portabilitiy
Apple’s new N1 wireless chip brings Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 to the Air for the first time, offering faster speeds and more stable connections in crowded areas. The 12MP Center Stage camera includes Desk View support, which keeps you centered during video calls and can show your desk from an overhead angle. Battery life remains rated at up to 18 hours, the fanless design means silent operation, and in addition to being just 13 inches, its 2.7-pound chassis makes it genuinely portable.

What to consider before you buy
The 13.6-inch display runs at 60Hz, not 120Hz like the MacBook Pro, so animations and scrolling aren’t as smooth. The glossy screen also picks up reflections in bright rooms, and the port selection is limited to two Thunderbolt 4 ports plus a headphone jack, so you may need a dongle for USB-A devices. Also, when it comes to raw performance, it’s nowhere near what you’d get from the best gaming laptops.
That said, at $949, this is the lowest price we’ve tracked for the 2026 MacBook Air M5 with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. If you need a lightweight laptop for school, work, or travel and can live with a 60Hz screen, this deal makes a brand-new Apple laptop significantly more affordable.
