Brampton lottery winner is looking forward to buying a new pair of shoes.
Some buy yachts. Others buy fancy cars. But for a Brampton man, hitting the jackpot just means a new pair of comfy shoes.
That’s what Robert F. plans to do with his winnings of $50,000, a top prize in the Instant Crossword game.
The winner is only being identified by his first name because of a change in policy by Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) that limits the media’s access to the names of those who collect prizes.
Robert, 75, said he discovered his big win early one morning.
“It was around 6 a.m. when I went to the store and decided to purchase a couple of tickets,” he said. “As part of my routine, I played one right away in the store, and when I realized I won, I couldn’t believe it!”
While at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to collect his winnings, Robert said his wife was stunned when he told her about the win. “I also told two good friends of mine, and they thought it was an April Fools’ joke,” he recalled.
With his windfall, Robert plans to pay some bills and purchase an electric bike, as well as a new pair of shoes.
“I’m so grateful I can say I’m a winner,” he said. “This has been a marvellous experience.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Raj Kitchen Food Fair on Father Tobin Road in Brampton.
