The Calgary Flames were one of the worst teams in the NHL in the 2025-26 season.

That comes with pretty much just one reward — a chance at a top pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, with the lottery on Tuesday night determining the order.
The Flames could end up with one of six different picks, and we’ll break down here how that works.

What picks could Flames get in lottery?
The Flames could pick anywhere from No. 1 overall to the No. 6 pick.
They could also choose at Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 5.

The odds aren’t equal across the board, though.

The Flames enter the night with the fourth-best lottery odds, which is why they can’t drop any further down the board than sixth.
A combined 19% chance of either the first or second pick is a pretty solid place to be, a legitimate chance of getting a franchise-changing difference maker.

The Flames wouldn’t complain about picking anywhere in the top-six, but it does usually feel more of a sure thing right at the top of the board — where many expect Gavin McKenna to be the first pick.
Among Canadian teams, the Canucks have the best lottery odds, the Maple Leafs are fifth and the Jets are seventh.
Calgary will be hoping luck is on its side on Tuesday night.
