Remember: reduce speed on seasonal bike routes
Seasonal bike routes with reduced speed zones are now in effect until mid-October.
The City of Winnipeg announced recently four routes will have 24/7 speed reductions, beginning May 1.

The Prairie Canada Carvers Association annual show returns to the Pembina Curling Club (1341 Pembina Hwy.) on May 9 and 10.
The following routes have been reduced to 30 km/h: Lyndale Drive from Cromwell Street to Gauvin Street; Wellington Crescent from Academy Road to Guelph Street; and Churchill Drive from Hay Street to Jubilee Avenue.
The speed limit is reduced to 40 km/h on Kilkenny Drive from Burgess Avenue to Kings Drive; and Kings Drive from Kilkenny Drive to Patricia Avenue.

Mayoral candidate registration now open
Registration for candidates wanting to run for mayor in the 2026 Winnipeg civic election is now open.
To register, visit the city clerk’s department office Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Making an appointment is encouraged.
Candidates cannot receive donations, borrow, or spend any funds on their campaign until they have registered. Candidates registered will be published on the election website.
The deadline for registration is Sept. 22 at 4:30 p.m.
The 2026 municipal election is on Wednesday, October 28.

Prairie Canada Carvers’ show, competition taking place May 9, 10
The Prairie Canada Carvers’ Association will its annual show on Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10 at the Pembina Curling Club (1341 Pembina Hwy.).
Along with the annual competition, workshops will be held, as well as a cocktail carving auction, a “garage sale,” raffles, and more.
This year’s theme activity is “The Enchanted Forest.”
The show runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $7, with children under 12 admitted free.

Curbside giveaway weekend May 9 and 10
Spring cleaning has sprung in Winnipeg with the city launching spring giveaways, compost programs, and yard waste collection.
On May 9 and 10 place reusable household items (excluding items that could carry bed bugs, toilets that use more than 13 litres per flush, or any unsafe item) along the curbs of your front street.
Label items with a ‘free’ sign, available at winnipeg.ca/giveawayweekend (a homemade one will work, too).
The city is also offering free compost for pick up from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., from Friday May 8 through Sunday, May 10.
Pickup is available at the following locations: 1901 Brady Rd.; Kilcona Dog Park; Summit Road closed landfill site. Limit 100 litres per vehicle.
