Police in Guelph have charged a Brampton man with fraud after allegedly “price switching” baby formula for cheaper items at self-checkout machines.
The Guelph Police Service say the incidents happened at four businesses on Feb. 7 in a one-hour period, when a male suspect purchased baby formula through self check-out machines.
But investigators say the man instead scanned the formula, worth nearly $100 each, as an item valued at less than $1.
The total loss to the businesses was nearly $1,000, police say.
A suspect was identified after images were shared in a Guelph Police Service news release, and police say a 24-year-old man from Brampton was arrested on Friday.
The man has been charged with seven counts of fraud under $5,000. The name of the accused has not been released.
He is scheduled to make a court appearance on July 28.
