A new 15MW data hub is set to be built at Galaxy Data Centers’ Redhill campus in east Surrey following approval from Reigate & Banstead Borough Council.
The development, located on the existing 3.1ha Foxboro Business Park industrial estate, will comprise a two-storey facility containing four data halls alongside an office block.
According to a statement from real estate investor Castleforge, the consent “marks a significant step forward in the joint venture’s plans to expand digital infrastructure capacity”.
The announcement follows the partnership’s investment of more than £100m in the existing Redhill Data Centre campus in December 2024. Castleforge said the latest phase will involve a further £200m investment, bringing the gross project value to around £500m.
The scheme has been designed to achieve a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating and will incorporate a range of low- and zero-carbon technologies.
Waste heat generated by the facility will be reused on site, while the design also allows for future export of waste heat to a neighbouring residential heat network.
Castleforge said the expansion responds to growing demand for digital infrastructure in the London market, driven by AI, cloud computing and hybrid workloads.
Paul Leong, chief financial officer and partner at Galaxy Data Centers, said: “This planning consent is a pivotal step in realising the long-term vision we set out when we acquired Redhill alongside Castleforge.”
The existing Redhill campus spans 11,800 sq m across three buildings. And Mike Adcock, head of investments at Castleforge, said: “Securing planning consent for our new development at Redhill is a major milestone in our plans to deliver high-quality, sustainable digital infrastructure to one of the world’s most important data centre markets.”
