Edmonton man faces multiple firearms charges after disturbance at Churchill LRT

An Edmonton man is facing multiple firearms-related charges in relation to an incident at Churchill LRT station in late April.

Edmonton police were called at 6:53 p.m. on April 26, to assist emergency medical services at the Churchill LRT station after paramedics said a man persistently interfered with their ability to help a person who was injured.

In a Thursday news release, police said officers arrested the man and subsequently searched him, allegedly finding a firearm in his backpack.

Skylar McGilvery, 30, is facing five charges, including possession of an offensive weapon dangerous to public, possession of a firearm knowing possession unauthorized, careless use of a firearm, and two counts of possessing a prohibited firearm. McGilvery was also alleged to have been in breach of a lifetime firearms ban as a result of a previous manslaughter charge.
