More than 1,200 volunteers descended on downtown Thursday for the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ‘s annual Spring CleanUp, marking the largest turnout in the event’s history.
Nearly 1,265 participants representing more than 100 businesses, non-profits, and community groups took part in the flagship event.
“Today we celebrate the power of community and collective action — coming together as business owners and community leaders, downtown workers, residents and students, and public service and elected government officials around a shared vision to make downtown visibly more welcoming, animated, and full of life”, said Kate Fenske, CEO, Downtown Winnipeg BIZ.

The Spring CleanUp complements the year-round efforts of the Wawanesa Enviro Team, which in 2025 collected over 1.7 million litres of litter, removed more than 9,380 graffiti tags, safely removed nearly 13,400 needles, and cleaned over 6,700 transit shelters.
Due to overwhelming community interest, the Downtown BIZ is launching a new flexible small-group cleanup program, allowing businesses, organizations, and individuals to select their own date and time with supplies and support provided.
