Re: Carney should state what ’leverage’ Canada has in trade talks: Poilievre, online, May 3
Article content
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre wants Prime Minister Mark Carney to reveal to Canadians — and of course the rest of the world — what “leverage” he and his team have as they seek to negotiate trade deals with the U.S.
How naive and ignorant is that? It’s like telling other people in a poker game what your hidden cards are, pretty much guaranteeing your loss, or “letting the cat out of the bag.”
I sure would like to play poker with Poilievre! He should criticize Carney after the trade deals are made — and not before.

PAIN DOESN’T STOP MCDAVID
Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid is a shining star when it comes to highlighting the courage of so many NHL players who suffer injuries but keep on playing due to love of the game and their fans.
Connor played through the 2026 NHL playoffs with a fracture in his foot/ankle area sustained in Game 2 against Anaheim.
Despite significant pain and limited mobility, which affected sharp turns and stops, he played all six games, averaging more than 23 minutes of ice time per game.
Thumbs up for you, Connor McDavid.

COULDN’T DO ANY WORSE
Re: Could Poilievre do any better? Letter to the editor, online, May 5
The letter writer asked if Pierre Poilievre could do better than Mark Carney. We don’t know.
All we know is that, for all the grand speeches, the multiple billion-dollar funds to “help” Canadian companies and workers, all the so-called new deals made with other countries and all the accolades from other world leaders, the cost of everything keeps rising. Hard-working people keep losing their jobs as companies lay off, shut down or move out of country. Deficit spending is at levels that can never be repaid.
Would Poilievre do better? I don’t know, but I can make an educated guess that he wouldn’t do any worse than Mr. Carney. As far as I am concerned, he and his Liberal government have been an absolute failure to Canadians.
