Brazilian soccer legend Ronaldinho dined at Ridgeway Plaza in Mississauga this week.
Ronaldo de Assis Moreira, more commonly known as Ronaldinho, is in Toronto for the Living Legends Match at BMO Field on Friday night.
The soccer star stopped at Sumaq Iraqi Charcoal Grill on Thursday, the restaurant said on social media.
“The legend @ronaldinho gave us a visit & he absolutely loved our Supreme Chicken Shawarma!” a post from Sumaq reads.
Located in Ridgeway Plaza, Sumaq specializes in traditional charcoal-grilled kebabs, veal and lamb shawarma, and a wide variety of Middle Eastern food, the restaurant says on its website.
A video (below) shows Ronaldinho arriving at the restaurant in a Living Legends Match van. He is greeted by restaurant staff as a crowd gathers around him.
Staff hands him a chicken shawarma and after taking a bite, Ronaldinho gives the thumbs up.
“Very good,” he says.
He also autographed soccer jerseys in the restaurant.
Ronaldinho started his international soccer career with Brazil in 1997. He played for Barcelona and AC Milan and is known as one of the greatest players of all time. He won two FIFA World Player of the Year awards and a Ballon d’Or.
On Thursday, he told reporters that he was happy to be in Toronto.
“It will be good to play with the Brazilian jersey again and to play in the stadium where the World Cup is going to be held,” he said.
In the Living Legends Match, Brazil Legends will face Toronto FC Legends in a one-night only showcase celebrating Canadian soccer ahead of the global tournament this summer.
