We could be in for a great surprise tonight at the Bell Centre before the showdown between the Montreal Canadiens and the Buffalo Sabres.
The mystery still surrounds the identity of the former player who will carry the torch tonight at the Bell Centre for the pregame ceremony, but several very interesting theories are circulating.
The Canadiens will face the Buffalo Sabres in Game 3 of the second round of the playoffs.
And the “new” tradition calls for a former Canadiens great to fire up the crowd before puck drop.
Several names have been circulating over the past few days.
Patrick Roy and P.K. Subban emerge as fan-favorite torch candidates at the Bell Centre
On BPM Sports a few days ago, Max Lalonde shared his desire to see Patrick Roy himself carry the torch during one of these pregame ceremonies.
“Just imagine: the camera opens, and Patrick is standing in the Bell Centre tunnel with the torch in his hands.
The place would split in two. I think the roof would blow right off.”
Patrick Roy is one of the most recognizable figures in Montreal Canadiens history, and even today, fans truly admire him.
Seeing him at the Bell Centre tonight would be a magical moment.
But Patrick Roy is not the only name being discussed.
Several Quebec analysts are also mentioning P.K. Subban as an excellent choice for tonight’s ceremony.
The former Canadiens defenseman left a mark on fans for several years, and he just made headlines in the city (quite a bit) for some great reasons:
Subban also has that star aura that could electrify the Bell Centre crowd in the same way Roy would.
Let’s be honest, both choices would be extraordinary.
The pregame ceremonies have become a trademark of the Bell Centre during the playoffs, so we are really looking forward to seeing it tonight.
Now we wait to see who will emerge from the shadows to carry the torch tonight in front of 21,105 fired-up fans.
Several other names could also be considered.
Saku Koivu. Guy Carbonneau. Yvan Cournoyer. All former Canadiens greats who left their mark on franchise history in their own way.
This is exactly the kind of tradition that sets the Bell Centre apart from other NHL arenas.
