CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sparked by a dramatic comeback in doubles play, the Bowdoin women’s tennis team shocked host MIT, 4-0, to advance to the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals for the second straight season.
The Polar Bears (15-7) move on to play Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the round of eight next Monday, May 18, at the Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tenn. More information about the championship will be announced this week.
Match Highlights
Suzanne Pogorelec and Cara Hung posted a dominant 6-1 win number two doubles to get Bowdoin on the board early, and MIT quickly tied it with a 6-2 victory at number three.
Down 4-0, and 5-2, at number one, Zoe Sun and Bella Hartung rolled off five straight games to post an improbable 7-5 win to give Bowdoin the doubles point.
The Polar Bears used that momentum to dominate singles play, closing out the Engineers in quick fashion.
Sun (6-3, 6-4), and Hartung (6-3, 6-4) earned straight-set wins and Caroline Stuhlfaut capped it with a 6-4, 6-2 win at number five.

Bowdoin will make its sixth NCAA quarterfinal appearance (2008, ’12, ’14, ’17, ’25) but will be the first time the program has made it in consecutive years.
The Polar Bears played at CMS in California in March, dropping a tight 4-3 decision.
