MADISON, (WKOW) — Student-athletes from colleges across the country gathered in Madison this weekend for the 2026 Collegiate Road National Championships hosted by USA Cycling.
The three-day event featured a team time trial Friday, a road race Saturday and criterium national championships Sunday as teams wrapped up their collegiate cycling season.
Many of the athletes competing this weekend are also graduating this week, making the championships an important end to their season.
Vanessa Drummond, manager of collegiate cycling for USA Cycling, said the atmosphere throughout the weekend has been positive.
“It’s been amazing,” Drummond said. “The Town, local community, everyone has been so welcoming. We’ve had beautiful weather, which is always a plus.”
Drummond said one of the highlights of collegiate cycling is bringing athletes from across the country together in different host cities each year.
“Bringing all of the colleges and the collegiate athletes together on a campus, basically, we’re on a campus here, is really cool,” she said. “The experience has been really great for us.”
Drummond also praised Madison and Wisconsin for hosting the event.
“We love coming to Wisconsin, and the roads are great,” Drummond said. “The community is great, very welcoming.”
