Daytime pro-am soccer games at Surrey’s Bear Creek Stadium this week

A “Surrey Schools Series” of two Unity FC soccer games will be played at Surrey’s Bear Creek Park Stadium this week.
Men’s and women’s teams of the semi-pro club in BC Premier League (BCPL) are scheduled for two late-morning matches Wednesday and Thursday (May 13-14), so local schools can attend along with the general public.
Unity FC’s women’s team plays Vancouver Rise FC on Wednesday, followed by the men’s squad vs. Whitecaps FC on Thursday. Both games start at 11 a.m., gates open at 10.
The matches bring together students, educators and the community “for a unique daytime soccer experience celebrating the world’s game,” says a post on unityfc.ca, where tickets are sold for $10 per match.
“This event gives students the chance to experience the excitement of high-level soccer in their own city,” the website says.
Unity FC teams typically plays matches at Cloverdale Athletic Park, but has moved the Surrey Schools Series to the year-old stadium at Bear Creek Park.
“We have been working closely with Surrey Schools, and we currently have over 2,500 students and staff confirmed to attend over the two days,” Kelcey Brade, Unity FC co-owner and president, told the Now-Leader last month.
“For many of these students, this will be their first live sporting event,” he added.
The Surrey Schools Series is supported by the City of Surrey and Surrey Schools, Brade noted.
“Since moving to Surrey in 2024, our ownership group has been committed to making Unity FC ‘Surrey’s Own,’ and these games — taking place just one month before Canada welcomes the world for the World Cup — are a major part of that outreach.”
