Max Verstappen has made no bones about his interest in endurance racing and will make his 24-Hour race debut at the Nurburgring this weekend.
The Red Bull driver has competed in several NLS rounds at the legendary Nordschleife to prepare, and his love for GT racing has seen him explore opportunities outside F1 more and more over the past year — with more to come.
Whilst he is yet to venture towards Hypercar, the leading category in endurance competition, he has shared his desire to compete at Le Mans in the past.
At the World Endurance Championship’s (WEC) recent Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, Ford’s global director of racing, Mark Rushbrook, confirmed he had held discussions with Verstappen about a 24 Hours of Le Mans tilt for the American marque, which launches its Hypercar programme next year.
Although he confirmed 2027 was off the table for the 28-year-old, he did not rule out the possibility of it happening while the 71-time grand prix winner remains in F1, where Ford is a power unit partner of Red Bull.
Former F1 driver Logan Sargeant, who has been confirmed for the Ford Hypercar project and is competing in LMGT3 this season in preparation, shared how much he would relish the opportunity to race alongside the four-time F1 drivers’ champion, backing the Dutchman to “kick everyone’s ass” in WEC.
