Winnipeg firefighters were kept busy overnight as they dealt with four structure fires Sunday evening through Monday morning.
The Fire Paramedic Service says they were called to the first fire in a three-story mixed-use building on Notre Dame Avenue at 6:15 p.m.
When they arrived, they managed to prevent what turned out to be a balcony fire from spreading to the building.
No one was hurt, and the fire was likely an accident caused by “the careless disposal of smoking materials.”
The second fire was at a rooming house on Spence Street at about 11:20 p.m. People inside the home escaped uninjured, but firefighters said they had to attack the fire from the outside due to heavy smoke inside.

The fire was under control an hour later. There was no initial cause or damage estimates.
A sprinkler system saved an apartment building on Guy Savoie Drive at 3:30 a.m. Monday. Firefighters found light smoke in the building when they arrived, and figured out that the apartment’s sprinkler put out a fire.
Damage was found in one suite and no one was hurt. The investigation continues and there are no damage estimates.
The final fire was on Waverley Street just before 5:30 a.m., at a four-storey apartment building. Sprinkler systems managed to extinguish that fire, too. Firefighters said while fire damage was found in one suite, other suites had water damage as well.
No one was hurt in that fire, and while the investigation continues, it appears to be accidental.
