Police have charged two men from Barrie and Brampton after police say they tried to steal a motorcycle during a potential sale.
The botched robbery happened on Thursday when the male owner of a motorcycle and his friend had arranged to meet a potential buyer for the bike, the Barrie Police Service says.
But when the pair arrived they were “boxed in” by suspects who tried to remove them from the vehicle, police say.
The victim managed to flee the area and drove directly to Barrie Police Headquarters for assistance.
Police say officers located the suspect vehicle as it was trying to enter the Highway 400 southbound ramp at Mapleview Drive, and that three suspects were arrested.
Barrie police say a 31-year-old male, from Barrie, a 31-year-old man and 35-year-old man, both from Brampton, have been charged with attempted robbery.
The incident has led police to remind members of the public “to use extreme caution” when conducting private sales.
“Meet in a public place during daylight hours, bring someone with you, and be aware of your surroundings,” police say. “Trust your instincts. If something feels off, leave the area. If something seems too good to be true, it usually is.”
