A senior is warning fellow seniors after being beaten up and forced to give a man money.
The local man was leaving an appointment in downtown Vernon in his truck when he says a guy tapped on his window alleging he hit him.
“I was only 10 feet from the corner, I know I didn’t hit him,” said the 82-year-old man,
The suspect demanded money as compensation and when the senior refused the suspect punched him several times in the head. He was forced to withdraw funds from an ATM.
“I gave him $50 and he took off,” said the victim, who suffered a black eye and several bruises and cuts to his face.
The incident was around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 5.
Police were alerted to it around 11:45 a.m. when the victim was being treated at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
“We haven’t been able to identify the suspect yet and are asking for the public’s help,” said Const. Chris Terleski, media relations officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP. “We’re circulating the photos hoping someone will recognize the person and contact us so we can advance our investigation.”
The victim describes the suspect as middle-aged, skinny, greyish mid-length hair, wearing sunglasses and had a little backpack with some rainbow colours on it.
