Rome, Italy – Ecuadorian Jonathan Narvaez, cyclist of the Emirates-XRG cycling team, won the title of the fourth stage of the Giro d’Italia. Which was held on Tuesday from Catanzaro to Cosenza, a distance of 138 kilometers. His Swiss teammate, Jan Kristen, snatched the white jersey designated for the best young cyclist.
Narvaez’s victory came after a strong end, after Christen initiated a late attack during the last two kilometers of the stage. Which forced the most prominent competitors to chase him and opened the way for his Ecuadorian colleague to move towards victory.
Narvaez invested the team’s teamwork in the best way, to take off strongly in the final meters to secure first place ahead of Venezuelan Orluis Olar. Meanwhile, Italian Giulio Ciccone came third, wearing the pink shirt for the overall leader before the start of the fifth stage.
This victory represents a strong return for Narvaez in his first participation since he suffered a severe injury during the Tour Down Under race last January. Which resulted in him suffering several fractures in his vertebrae.
On the other hand, Christen succeeded in finishing the stage in the lead group, rising to second place in the overall standings, only 4 seconds behind the leader. In addition to topping the ranking of the best young cyclist and receiving the white shirt.
