A large blue-and-white circus tent is about to transform the parking lot at Dixie Outlet Mall into an aquatic big top experience.
Cirque Italia will bring its travelling “Aquatic Spectacular” to Mississauga from May 15 to May 18, featuring multiple performances under a climate-controlled tent set up outside the longtime shopping centre.
The European-style production is known for its custom-built stage containing 35,000 gallons of water, creating fountain displays, rain curtains and dramatic visual effects that become part of the performance itself.
Founded in 2012 by Manuel Rebecchi — the nephew of legendary Italian circus performer Moira Orfei — Cirque Italia combines traditional circus artistry with modern theatrical production.
Unlike traditional circuses, the show does not feature animals, instead focusing entirely on human performance and athleticism.
Audiences can expect a lineup of aerialists, acrobats, contortionists and high-wire performers alongside acts involving BMX bikes and roller skates. The production also incorporates lasers, bubbles and elaborate lighting effects designed to create an immersive experience beneath the tent.
Cirque Italia describes the production as a more intimate European-style circus experience, emphasizing artistry and close-up performances rather than arena-scale spectacles.
The touring show features performers from around the world, including artists from countries such as Argentina, Brazil and Romania.
The Mississauga stop is part of the company’s 2026 North American tour, which includes several Ontario dates this spring.
Performances at Dixie Outlet Mall are scheduled throughout the four-day run from May 15 through May 18.
