One full week of NFL preseason action is in the books, and there’s plenty to talk about.

After a promising NFL debut in the Browns’ preseason opener, Shedeur Sanders entered the week with even more attention than before. On Wednesday, he didn’t take part in either 7-on-7 or 11-on-11 drills in Browns-Eagles joint practice.

The reason, per the team, was straightforward: Sanders suffered an oblique injury early Wednesday and was held out.

The QB rotation went like this in his stead:

7-on-7: veteran Kenny Pickett with the first team; third-round rookie Dillon Gabriel with the second team; and recently signed veteran Tyler Huntley with the third team

11-on-11: presumptive QB1 Joe Flacco with the 1s; Gabriel with one play with the 1s and the rest with the 2s; and then Huntley with the 2s

Red zone 11-on-11: Flacco with the 1s, Gabriel with the 2s

So there you have it. Still no word who will start Saturday’s second preseason game at the Eagles, or whether Sanders will even play.

Jerry Jones reveals he battled stage 4 melanoma: Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones told the Dallas Morning News that he beat stage 4 melanoma after over a decade including four surgeries. “I now have no tumors,” Jones, who is 82 years old, said. His initial diagnosis came in 2010, and over the next 10 years he had two surgeries on his lungs and two on his lymph nodes. He credited the experimental drug PD-1 — short for Programmed Cell Death Protein 1 — for his recovery. “I was saved by a fabulous treatment and great doctors and a real miracle [drug] called PD-1 [therapy],” Jones said, via the Morning News. “I went into trials for that PD-1 and it has been one of the great medicines.”

No Browns starting QB named for Eagles game yet: We know this much: Joe Flacco is the presumptive starter at quarterback when the regular season starts, and he won’t play on Saturday. Neither will veteran Kenny Pickett, long assumed to be QB2. That’s about it, as there are no decisions whether Shedeur Sanders or Dillon Gabriel will start Saturday in the Browns’ second preseason game at the Eagles. What’s more: Sanders didn’t get QB3 reps in 7-on-7 drills vs. the Eagles Wednesday —–— veteran camp arm Tyler Huntley did. We’ll see what head coach Kevin Stefanski says after practice.

Najee Harris returns to practice after fireworks injury: Chargers running back Najee Harris was seen running drills with a football on Tuesday for the first time in training camp, according to ESPN’s Kris Rhim. He reportedly did so off to the side with a trainer. It has been more than a month since Harris sustained what was described as a “superficial” eye injury during a Fourth of July fireworks mishap. His agent insisted he would be ready for the start of the regular season, but the Chargers have so far been hesitant to provide anything resembling a timetable for his return.
