The city of Winnipeg has secured an additional $4 million to build more homes and help address the housing crisis across the city.
The annual installment of $30.6 million is helping create more places for Winnipeggers to live, and on Wednesday, the city announced there will be an additional $4.04 million added to the Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF).
“Our government is removing barriers and cutting red tape to enable more housing in communities across Canada,” said the Honourable Gregor Robertson, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure and Minister responsible for Pacific Economic Development Canada in a press release. “We reward local governments that are delivering real results and building more homes faster. By reinvesting in proven success, we are helping more Canadians access the housing they need.”
Focused on getting people housed
According to the release, this installment is the third of four scheduled payments. These make up the city’s original $122.4 million HAF agreement with the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).

Of the 9,716 new permitted housing units announced on Dec. 4, 2025, over 1,000 of those are affordable units.
“Winnipeg is proving that when you prioritize housing, you can deliver,” said Councillor Evan Duncan, Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Property and Development. “We set ambitious targets with CMHC and are on pace to exceed them, and this additional funding shows we are leading the way in building the homes our growing city needs.”
